How to Apply
MATERIALS |
Here's a list of what you may need for your The Wood Stain project:
|
The Wood Stain is a simple three step process, just prep, stain and topcoat!
USE |
For use on new or refinished wood interior floors, cabinetry, millwork, furniture, walls, ceilings, trim, siding, countertops, etc.
|
PRODUCT PREP |
Open can and stir well, stir the stain thoroughly to mix any pigments that may have settled at the bottom. Do not thin or shake.
|
WOOD PREP |
Paint should be applied to a clean dry surface, free of dust, grime, wax, debris, or other contaminants. Previous finishes should be stripped or sanded off. Sand with 220 grit sandpaper and remove dust with a damp cloth.
|
COVERAGE |
1 quart treats up to 200 sq. ft. Actual coverage varies based on application and surface type.
|
TEST SWATCH |
Apply the stain to a small, inconspicuous area of the wood to test the color. This will give you an idea of the final appearance.
|
APPLICATION |
Using a brush, rag, or foam applicator, apply a thin, even coat of stain in the direction of the wood grain using a natural bristle brush. Keep a wet edge as you work. Stirring occasionally during use. For best results, use when temperature is between 55-90°F (19-32°C) and relative humidity is below 85%. Do not work out of the can.
|
WIPE OFF EXCESS |
Wait 5-10 minutes, then wipe excess away in the direction of the wood grain. For lighter colors, apply and wipe off excess immediately. The longer the stain is left on the wood before wiping, the darker the final color will be.
|
DRY TIME |
Dry to touch in just 2 hours. Allow longer dry times for darker colors, cooler climates, damp/humid climates and soft woods.
|
ADDITIONAL COATS |
Re-coat as needed for desired color, following the same instructions. Allow 2 hours for project re-coat time.
|
PROTECTION |
Once the desired color is achieved and the stain is dry, apply a clear finish to protect the wood and lock in the color. Protect wood and color with The Varnish or The Polyurethane topcoat. Wait a minimum of two hours and apply a topcoat per the directions on the can.
|
CLEAN UP |
Mineral spirit clean-up for oil-based wood stain.
Close lid securely between uses. |
CURE TIME |
After the final coat or sealant is applied, allow to cure for 24 hours before light use. Full cure time for heavy use on all coatings products is 30 days.
|
PRODUCT STORAGE
|
Store product in a cool, dry place, 55-90°F.
|
PROJECT CARE |
Fine furniture and cabinetry finish care is important. After you finish has cured, the best way to clean is with a rag dampened with water. If your surface requires deeper cleaning we suggest adding a drop of dish detergent or vinegar. Be sure to use coasters, mats and trivets. Wipe spills immediately and only use a water damp microfiber cloth and mild dish soap to clean.
Always avoid using oil-soap or silicone-based daily cleaners or dusting sprays. These products contaminate the existing finish and can prevent the adhesion of future finishes. |
